 Message from CABPES President:

A Call To CABPES Parents!
This fall will mark 33 years of the Colorado Association of  Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES) serving the Denver schools in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). As we start the 2013‐2014 school year, CABPES is looking forward to building upon the great success we experienced last year. Among our achievements last year, CABPES offered more STEM classes than ever before; had more volunteers than ever before and had a fifty‐percent increase in student enrollment over the past few years.

One might be asking, what’s next on CABPES’ radar to have an even better program year than our previous year?

The answer to this question is simple: We need more parental support! This
starts as simply as cooperating with the staff by signing your student(s) in and out each night they attend a CABPES class.

Most importantly, though, we need all CABPES parents to volunteer between
4 to 8 hours annually ‐ helping where needed, so that our volunteer instructors can focus on successfully educating our student(s).

Parents, there are many opportunities to get involved, including:

• Helping with fundraising and bringing fundraising ideas to the CABPES executive director.
• Serving as hall monitors and serving snacks to the students on class nights.
• Helping to plan the annual Holiday party and other events on the CABPES agenda.
• Helping with the CABPES 33rd Annual Awards Banquet in May 2014

Lastly, CABPES is looking for parents to serve as leaders for the CABPES Parental
Action Committee for Education (PACE). PACE is the CABPES parent organization that meets monthly during the school year to discuss and come up with ideas to achieve the tasks mentioned above and other tasks that might come up throughout the school year.

We view CABPES parents as critical to helping us achieve our mission. We are
honored to serve the students in our community, and look forward to your increased participation and support!

Blessings,
Dewey F. Brigham, Jr.

Letter from CABPES President

As President of the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists, I have the privilege of helping to shape the lives of our young people.

Many of today's youth believe that careers in the entertainment and sports industry are the only worthwhile paths to success. But, at CABPES we want them to know that careers in science, math and engineering can also offer personal fulfillment and professional opportunities.

By providing constructive academic projects and challenging our young people we contribute to their future success.

As engineering professionals and scientists, we must continue to keep pace with rapidly advancing technology. Students must continually strive to achieve excellence. Parents must prepare them to meet the demands of an ever-changing technological and academic landscape.

It is my hope that together we can shape a better future for us all!

Sincerely,

Dewey F. Brigham, Jr.
CABPES President
