Junior Engineering, Tommorrow's Scientists - JETS
The JETS program is designed to develop student interest in engineering and applied sciences through courses, field trips, projects and other "hands-on" opportunities for learning. Courses in architecture, electronics, civil engineering, construction management, programming and web design, computer-aided design, lego robotics, and aerospace engineering programming are offered from September through May.  Industry professionals in each of the engineering disciplines volunteers to teach and advise the students in their specialty area.  Field trips are often added to the curriculum to study engineering and science principles in practical applications.

Widening Our World - WOW

WOW is an unusual program, which gives the JETS students an opportunity to use their computer skills and develop leadership skills while providing a service to the senior citizens in our community. CABPES students spend nine weeks each summer teaching senior citizens about computers and giving them free, hands-on experience featuring the basics of computers, using e-mail and using the Internet to surf the World Wide Web.

Math Enrichment Program - MEP

CABPES offers a variety of options in its Math Enrichment Program to ensure that the needs of the students are met. These include:

  • The Math Intensive is offered three nights a week by a certified math teacher and provides an intensive middle math program for students who are struggling.
  • A separate math class in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 is offered.
  • Homework Help on Request will pair a student with a tutor with appropriate skills to assist with homework. Requests for a tutor must be made 48 hours in advance.

Take the MEP Diagnostic Assessment to test your aptitude.

Annual Banquet

Every year CABPES sponsors an annual awards banquet to showcase the work of the students in the program. Each of the JETS classes has an opportunity to create projects that are displayed and explained at the banquet. One of the most popular aspects of the banquet is always the bridge contest, where students from the civil engineering class build bridges using the principals learned during the year. Students have an opportunity to hone their presentation skills by presenting, discussing and answering questions about their projects. Graduating seniors are recognized at this event and those heading to college are awarded scholarships.

Scholarships

Proceeds from the Annual Awards Banquet provide scholarship funds for CABPES graduating seniors who are pursuing college studies.

SAT & College Preparatory Program - SAT PREP

CABPES provides assistance with college preparation including a class to help students prepare for the SAT college entrance examination. This program is an important element of the CABPES youth educational support program. The program goal is to assist students in their preparation for the SAT. We will familiarize the student with: (1) what is measured by the SAT, (2) the structure of the test. (3) test taking tips to enhance performance, (4) the major concepts of the test and (5) strategies for each test section. The course is based upon The College Board (the test maker) recommendations and utilizes their teaching materials, test taking skills and practice tests. The program is for six weeks and it is offered twice a year before the exam is administered.
In addition to the SAT Preparation Program, CABPES begins a new partnership in fall 2007 to strengthen its college preparation activities. CABPES will work with College In Colorado to provide students with tools to use as they ready themselves for college. The College In Colorado team reaches out to students, parents and educators through ongoing events and training opportunities, as well as providing practical tools to assist every student in Colorado in furthering their education past high school. Their website, CollegeInColorado.org, is a free, comprehensive Website dedicated to providing students with everything they need to know about career exploration and planning, selecting high school courses, choosing and applying to colleges, obtaining financial aid and getting ready to take the SAT, ACT or GRE tests. College In Colorado will work with CABPES students to assist them in utilizing the website from middle school on to prepare for college. Special programs will be held throughout the year to assist students.
