NURTURING THE INNOVATIVE S.T.E.M. MINDS OF TOMORROW

Our Mission

The Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging African-Americans and other underrepresented youth to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.

Vision

We envision a community whereby the number of minority STEM professionals will increase to the level that better represents the minority population while assisting the industry in meeting the growing demand for STEM professionals.

Programs

We believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to innovation and progress. By fostering a passion for STEM in our young people, we aim to build a brighter, more equitable future for all. Our commitment is to provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities necessary for these talented individuals to succeed. We work tirelessly to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create pathways to success.

Get Involved

Your involvement can be the catalyst that propels a young person toward a rewarding career in STEM. Join us in our mission to create a brighter, more inclusive future. Together, we can make a lasting impact. Volunteering with us not only benefits the youth we serve but also enriches your own life. You’ll have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet like-minded individuals, and contribute to a cause that is vital for creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community.

Our Goals

Build STEM awareness, interest and identity.

CABPES Welcomes Two Distinguished Leaders to Board of Directors

CABPES is proud to welcome Mathieu Medina and Al Gardner to its Board of Directors. Their combined expertise in engineering, technology, public service, and STEM mentorship further strengthens CABPES' mission of preparing the next generation of BIPOC engineers, scientists, and technology leaders. Medina is a Water Process Engineer and Project Manager with Corona Environmental Consulting and holds engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Texas at Austin. Since joining CABPES as a volunteer in 2023, he has served as a tutor, instructor, and mentor in the organization's Math Enrichment Program (MEP) and Junior Engineers Tomorrow's Scientists (JETS) program, helping students discover careers in engineering and mentoring a team to a Colorado Future City Competition championship.

Gardner currently serves as Denver's Deputy Mayor and Executive Director of Public Safety, overseeing strategic leadership across the city's public safety agencies. A nationally recognized technology executive, Gardner previously led enterprise technology and cybersecurity initiatives for organizations including Inspirato and Salud Family Health. He has received numerous honors for his leadership and civic service, including the Denver Business Journal C-Suite Award and Urban Spectrum's African Americans Who Make a Difference recognition.

"We are excited to welcome Mathieu and Al to the CABPES Board of Directors," said CABPES leadership. "Their leadership, professional expertise, and commitment to community service will help advance our mission and inspire future STEM leaders throughout Colorado."
